Decor with Team Spirit
Of course you’re a football fan — it’s easy when you have such a great team. They may be the best at scoring, they may have a great offense, maybe they have an amazing defense. Or they might not be the best at anything, but you love them anyway. Whatever the reason, football season is your season and you want to show off what a devoted fan you are. Here are some ways to show your team spirit throughout your home.

Front Yard

Having people over for the game? Make sure your house stands out from the others on your block with football-themed gear in your windows and football-themed lights on your walkway. Hanging the team jersey of your favorite player in your front window is a sure sign that tells your guests, "The game is here!" If you have a tree in the front yard, you can hang a team flag or team-colored streamers from one of the branches or wrapped around the base. Making it easy to find your house means it's more likely your party will start on time. No one wants to miss the kickoff.

Living Room & Family Room

Extend the excitement your front yard inspires by keeping the theme alive throughout the living room and family room. If you've added a jersey in the front window, keep the drapes open inside so your guests can see the other side of the jersey when they're in your house.

Your couch is often the first place people go when they step inside your home, so let them relax in style with a blanket in team colors. Toss in a couple of team-colored throw pillows for added comfort. A rug in the middle of your floor in a team color will match your couch perfectly and complement the spirit theme throughout the room. The rug doesn’t have to be branded with a team logo or contain both team colors; one color mixed with the pillows and the blanket will bring the room together and make it look effortless.

Coffee table books that highlight your team — and your love of football — will enhance the spirit theme and keep your guests entertained. A scrapbook mixing pictures of amazing football moments with family photos will also go great on your coffee table. Take pictures of the kids in jerseys and put them on a background with your team colors. A great scrapping theme is “Mommy’s Little Quarterback.” Opening up that scrapbook and seeing your little one in team colors will bring you joy for years to come!

A DVD sports series that features your team's highs and lows is a fan-tastic pre-game warm-up. Bloopers are always great fun, too. Get everyone ready to roar in time for the cheering to begin!

Kitchen
Find bowls in your team colors to serve snacks in; with every chip you will be reminded that your team is the best. If you’re thinking about re-covering kitchen cushions, pick up fabric in your team colors and cover half the chairs in one color and half the kitchen chairs in the other team color. Or go one step further and sew the fabrics together so that every chair has your team’s colors on it. For more variety, make or buy removable chair covers that you can change when the season is over.

You can also make a special team tablecloth by sewing two pieces of cloth together that feature your team colors. Stripes look great on a table. For less fuss, buy fabric that contains both colors. Pick up some extra fabric and you can make matching team-spirited tablecloths, chair covers, and even cozies for your toaster, teapot and coffeepot.

Backyard
Keep your team spirit strong in your backyard! From a great outdoor grill covered with your team logo to pennants and walkway lights, your friends and neighbors won't have to question how big a football fan you are.

For games that take place in the daylight hours, decorate fences with pennants, streamers and balloons in your team’s colors. Set up goal posts for halftime games and make sure you have a few footballs on hand for some halftime horseplay. For nighttime games, line your yard with illuminated pathway lights or place them in a football formation on your lawn. Add an illuminated yard sign and you’ll have a backyard that is as festive as it is welcoming without having to spend a fortune.

You are overflowing with team spirit — show it off for everyone to see. The key is not to have the most expensive decorations, but to create a space that your family and friends find warm, inviting and fun. A small investment in colored fabrics, serving bowls, logo merchandise, and even team jerseys helps you show your team spirit without breaking the bank ... and it brings everyone closer together.
