Ingredients

ground beef chuck | | 1/3 | cup
finely chopped onion | | 1 | tbsp.
chili powder | | 1 1/2 | tsp.
ground cumin | | 3/4 | tsp.
chopped fresh oregano | | 3/4 | tsp.
garlic pepper | | 3/4 | tsp.
salt (optional) | | 6 | slices peppered Jack cheese (about 4 oz.) | | 6 | hamburger buns |

Directions
 | Heat grill to medium direct heat. Meanwhile, crumble meat into medium bowl. Sprinkle with onion, chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic pepper and salt, if desired; toss lightly with 2 forks to mix well. Shape into 6 patties, each 3/4 inch thick. |  | Place burgers on grill. Grill, covered, 5 to 7 minutes per side or until done (160°F). Top each burger with a slice of cheese, if desired, and place buns, cut side down, on grill during last 1 to 2 minutes of cooking. |  | Serve hot burgers in buns. |
