Kids may not have the staying power to sit through all four quarters of the big game, but they can still take part in the excitement. This season, whether they are the next MVP or a quarterback prodigy get your little ones involved with these fun football craft ideas. Not only are they easy, they’re also economical and a great fit for any budget or skill level.

Kick off your football party on the right foot by creating spirited invitations. Kids can help with creating ticket-themed invitations for the event on cardstock, printed with the recipient’s name and the details of the event. Keep plenty of football stickers on hand to decorate the envelopes.

With an empty cardboard toilet paper roll, scissors, glue and paper, kids can craft an entire football roster! Simply print a template of a cartoon football player (easily found online with a simple search) and cut out his head, arms and feet; or help your child draw their own. Once all the pieces are colored and ready, use the glue to affix them to paper roll “body,” then decorate the roll with the team colors and a favorite player’s name and number. Don’t forget to make a football for the player to hold. Try different player poses, like a TD celebration dance or Hail-Mary pass.

You’re sure to score points with this creative idea. Purchase a solid green paper tablecloth, and then enlist the kids’ help in painting on white lines to create a scaled-down football field. For added detail, they can add the team’s names, miniature goalposts and even a mid-field logo.

This industrious craft is both fun and practical. You’ll need a few sheets of construction paper in your favorite team’s colors. For each placemat, cut 10 strips of construction paper and lay them down side by side, held in place by a strip of tape across the top. Next, cut an equal amount of strips in the second color and weave them through the existing strips, going in the opposite direction. Once all of your strips are in place, add any desired graphics, such as a printed-out team helmet or jersey, and then cover the placemat with contact paper to ensure it lasts well after the final whistle has sounded.
