Setting a Baby-Shower Table

Setting a Baby-Shower Table

What could be more fun than baby-shower decorating? It’s a perfect occasion to let your imagination run wild! Between the decorations and the oh-so-cute baby accessories, you can create a setting that’s whimsical and charming. Incorporate your ideas into a charming tabletop presentation. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Tablecloth and Napkins

Choose something festive — maybe a themed cloth with bouncing babies or soaring storks. Or, go with a pink and blue pastel cloth. Then, use matching or contrasting napkins.

Place Mats

Again, you can match the mats to the tablecloth and napkins — or use cloth diapers folded in triangles. Cinched with pink and blue safety pins. It’ll add a whimsical touch.

Tableware

Your choice of plates and flatware will depend on your shower’s formality. If you opt for a more formal event, break out the good dishes, glassware and silverware. If you want an informal setting, choose baby-themed disposable plates, cups and utensils.

Place Cards

Go goo-goo with these: Use pacifiers, teething rings, rattles, bottles or baby booties that are personalized with a black marker.

Centerpiece

“Diaper cakes” are the hot centerpiece right now. Homemade ones are usually fashioned from disposable diapers; yarn; a cake board or large cardboard disc; a variety of baby essentials like hair brushes, pacifiers and teething rings; lots of ribbons and a rubber ducky or teddy bear on top.

Or, you can create an old-fashioned centerpiece. Just fill a colorful basket with baby essentials and stuffed animals.

Little Extras

Place teddy bears or nursery-rhyme characters around the room. You can also play lullabies or children’s songs as background music. As a traditional touch, suspend a small upside-down umbrella from the ceiling over the chair where the mom-to-be will open gifts.

With so many inexpensive baby-themed items available, baby-shower decorations can be so much fun to plan. Once you get started, you’ll see it’s as easy as child’s play!
