Football Decor on a Dollar

Show your pigskin passion and flaunt team spirit with football decor for your next football party. These simple and inexpensive ideas will get the team riled up come football time.

Front Yard

Having the super fans over for the game? Make sure your house stands out on your block with football-themed gear in the windows and lights on the walkway. Flex your creative muscle by turning your house into a fictional football stadium. Have the kids create stadium signs with poster board and a coloring kit. Think of a clever name by playing off famous football fields, including Soldier Field, Notre Dame Stadium and Lambeau Field.

Making it easy to find your house means it’s more likely your party will start on time. No one wants to miss the kickoff.

Living Room and Family Room

Draw up and post football-themed lists on large paper with team trivia and questions for debate. Who was your team’s best quarterback of all time? Who had the best touchdown dance? Could a team from yesteryear defeat today’s squad? For trivia, hand out cards and quiz your guests’ knowledge to turn your decor into a game. Provide a small prize for the biggest football fanatic.

Don’t forget the kids — they can boost team spirit by re-enacting plays from the game during commercial breaks.

A scrapbook mixing pictures of amazing football moments with family photos will also look great on your coffee table. Take pictures of the kids in jerseys and put them on a background with your team colors. A great scrapping theme is “Mommy’s Little Quarterback.” Opening up that scrapbook and seeing your little one in team colors will bring you joy for years to come!

A DVD sports series featuring your team’s highs and lows is a fan-tastic pre-game warm-up. Bloopers are always great fun, too. Get everyone ready to roar in time for the cheering to begin!

Kitchen

This is a great place to make use of your favorite team’s colors. Paper or plastic cups and plates in these colors are a great way to show team spirit. You can also add some interest to the kitchen or dining table by making a quick and easy table runner. All you have to do is purchase a few yards of fabric in your team colors (enough to stretch across the table lengthwise and have a foot or two hanging over each end), then take each piece and neatly fold the cut outside edges under (like you’d fold a hand towel). The two pieces should be the same size. Place the two pieces of fabric next to each other and you’ve got an instant, spirited table accent that’s much easier to take care of than a full tablecloth. If you have a steady hand, skip the hemming and just trim the ends very neatly; if you decide that hemming is necessary, try the iron-on strips to avoid sewing.

Backyard

Keep your team spirit strong in your backyard. From a great outdoor grill covered with your team logo to pennants and walkway lights, your friends and neighbors won’t have to question how big a football fan you are. If you have a table umbrella, swag streamers in your team’s colors around the sides and drape chairs with team-themed beach towels.

For day games, decorate fences with pennants, streamers and balloons in your team’s colors. Make sure to keep some space clear in the yard for the kids, and always have a few footballs on hand for some halftime horseplay.

Guests

Have you finished decorating your house? Don’t stop there. Pick up face paint, T-shirts and ribbons in your team colors to decorate your kids and guests. Draw your team logos on your kid’s cheeks or tie ribbons in your little girl’s hair. Matching T-shirts make your family a team of cheer champions.
