Summer Makeup Trends

This summer, let your natural beauty shine through by using a “less is more” strategy with your makeup palette. With just a few subtle, warm-hue highlights, your complexion and facial structure will take center stage.

Bright Eyes

This season is all about showcasing your natural beauty. Make your eyes really pop with soft shades that complement your eye color, rather than bright shades that compete.

  • Keep it simple: Highlight your eyes with muted shades. If you must wear eyeliner, select soft, brown hues instead of traditional black.
  • Add length: Try lengthening mascara in brown for natural-looking, long lashes. Don’t forget waterproof mascara; it comes in handy during the summer heat, especially if your day includes a dip in the pool.
  • Master the application: Subtly brush shadow over your lids for a glowing highlight line. Or, take it up a notch by sweeping shadow from your brow to your lash line. To really beat the heat, try a cream eye shadow that won’t flake off.
  • Mix and match: Just because you’re wearing a brightly colored scarf doesn’t mean that you have to wear bright shadow. Try sweeping a light shade over your lids.
Dewy Lips

Lips for summer should look hydrated, not overly glossy. A light gloss over a transparent, natural berry color will have your lips looking luscious.

Natural Foundation

Due to the heat from the summer sun, liquid foundation may not stay in place. Use these lighter foundations for a natural look that won’t melt.

  • Tinted moisturizer: SPF is a summer staple so make sure it’s in your moisturizer, too. You’ll even out your skin tone while adding moisture to your face. For a sun-kissed look, finish with a bronzing powder.
  • Mineral foundation: This popular product covers skin discolorations and blemishes while providing a matte finish. Throw it in your purse for easy on-the-go touch-ups during the day.
Sun-Kissed Cheeks

As with eye shadow, use cheek color in moderation — if you decide to wear it at all.

  • Enhance your tan: Highlight your cheekbones with a lightweight bronzing blush.
  • Add a touch of color: With a tinted gel blush, add a dab of color to your cheeks for a dewy, fresh look.
