Seasonal Scents

The seasons have more to do with your choice of fragrance than you might think. From flowery spring fragrances to deep caramel flavors for fall, knowing when to wear what scent is essential. After all, not only are you affected by your fragrance, but the people around you are too.

Here are some answers to common seasonal fragrance questions to help you smell great year-round.

Does my perfume smell different in summer and winter?

Some women notice that their favorite scent does not smell as wonderful in summer as it did in winter. That's because during the seasons your skin chemistry changes. When it's warm out, your skin and body smell different than they do in winter. When you spray fragrance on your wrists, the combination of how your body smells naturally mixed with the fragrance can be drastically different in summer than it is in winter. Read on to find out what scents are appropriate for the seasons.

Will my perfume smell differently when I wear it for many years?

The seasons of your life also have a big effect on your body chemistry. Scents that smelled amazing to you when you were a teen may not smell so great now that you are a mom. Body chemistry changes with age. It changes when you have children, and it continues to grow and evolve over time. Your fragrance should do the same. If you have a favorite fragrance, but it just doesn't smell the way it used to, consider updating it to something that smells wonderful to you now.

What types of fragrances smell good during which seasons?

  • Spring: Light, clean fragrances including single florals are spring favorites. Crisp, light woodsy scents will also work for spring. Everything is growing back after a long winter, and your fragrance should represent that simplicity and lightness. You want a scent that is sexy and sweet, not too complicated or dark.
  • Summer: Your summer scent should be one that smells pleasant even if your body heat rises. When you’re choosing a summer scent, spray a little bit fragrance on your warm skin. Does it make you think of cool oceans or a day at the beach? If so, that's the scent for you. Fragrances that remind you of water or bonfires or even scents with a hint of marshmallow or candy are great for summer.
  • Fall: You don't want anything too heavy for fall, but your summertime beach fragrance just isn't going to work anymore. As the weather cools, your fragrance can be a little warmer to compensate for the outside temperature drop. Consider a leather or medium-woodsy fragrance. If you like fragrances that are reminiscent of tasty foods (who doesn't like to make someone's mouth water with a fragrance?), consider caramel scents for a little depth without the heaviness.
  • Winter: A dark woodsy scent is great for winter. Warm and rich, you'll be picturing fireplaces and cabins when you wear it. Comforting scents with a musky base will also smell wonderful during winter. Consider a fragrance that mixes the sultry smell of musk with comforting vanilla to make you feel both warm and sexy. Leather scents with honey or tobacco notes will also make winter seem a little warmer. Chypre scents are also fantastic for winter.
